Do I Have Sensitive Skin? – Skin Rocks

Do I Have Sensitive Skin?

You might assume that sensitive skin simply means skin that is easily irritated, but there are other signs to be aware of that may indicate your skin is sensitive or sensitised.

It’s also important to note that everybody’s skin is different, and one person’s skin may react or behave in an entirely different way from the other.

So, while you may not experience everything listed below, a combination of two or more may be an indicator that your skin is sensitive or sensitised.

What does sensitive/sensitised skin look like?

You may suffer from:

  • Redness and flushing
  • Burst blood vessels – this can be an indicator of rosacea*
  • Flaking
  • Rashes and bumpy texture
  • Breakouts
  • Burns easily in the sun
  • A ‘sore’ face

Sensitive skin & deeper skin tones:

Whilst sensitivity might not show with the hallmark redness you may associate it with, on deeper skin tones, you will still experience the textural differences, rashes, breakouts and sensations attributed to sensitivity (outlined below). The skin's inflammatory response to irritation can also lead to hyperpigmentation – a darkening of the skin as extra melanin is produced in response to inflammation.

What does it feel like?

  • Burning or stinging sensation – particularly when applying makeup or skincare products
  • Tight
  • Hot/Warm
  • Dry patches
  • Rough texture
  • Itchy
