The products included in The Menopause Box are hand-picked by our Founder and Skincare Expert, Caroline Hirons. Read on to find out why she chose the products and to discover her top tips for dealing with menopausal skin.
Why did you choose menopause as a theme?
Since the sell-out success of our first Menopause Box, we have been inundated with requests to do another one. The effect menopause can have on the skin has, until recently, been criminally overlooked within the beauty industry. Here at Skin Rocks, we want everyone to be able to find a routine that works for them using products that are already on the market. We are thrilled to bring Menopause Box 2.0 to you with a new and updated targeted routine to calm and soothe menopausal skin.
Why did you choose these products?
Votary Super Seed Cleansing Oil
This gentle cleansing oil is perfect for skin that has been upset in any manner through symptoms of menopause, but also effective enough to do a thorough job. Soft, hydrating and fragrance-free, this cleanser is perfect for skin that’s as irritated as you are.

NIOD Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist
NIOD have created an easy-to-use soothing mist powered by superoxide dismutase (think of this as a super antioxidant) to help protect the skin and defend against external aggressors. A must-have for menopausal skin. You can use it on the go, spritz it whenever your skin is feeling tight or irritated and you can even keep it in a fridge for the ultimate cooling treatment (but you don’t have to). Skin is left feeling hydrated, calm and refreshed.

Medik8 Calmwise Serum
This is the ‘fire-extinguisher’ of the routine. This serum is perfect for skin that’s feeling irritated, tight and hot. It calms and nourishes the skin and helps to combat any redness and discomfort, providing soothing relief. Containing just 7 ingredients, this serum helps to keep things simple when everything else feels complicated.

Aurelia Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser
Menopausal skin requires hydration and balance without too much fuss. Aurelia specialises in probiotics - powerhouse ingredients in supporting the skin’s microbiome – so it was an obvious choice for me to include them in the Box. This moisturiser hydrates the skin without feeling too heavy or greasy – an essential when you’re feeling hot and bothered.

Darphin Hydraskin Cooling Hydrating Gel Mask
Aside from its hydrating and cooling benefits, I chose the Darphin Hydraskin Cooling Hydrating Gel Mask because of its lightweight texture and ease of use. You can slot this mask into your routine after cleansing up to 3 times a week or whenever needed before following with the rest of your routine. Combatting skin tightness, this mask provides a quick dose of hydration and instantly cools and soothes tired and irritated skin.

What are your top tips for menopausal skin?
-
Oestrogen is responsible for high levels of sebum and hyaluronic acid in the skin, so when this starts to deplete, you’ll find your moisture levels will follow. Look out for moisturisers containing ceramides, peptides or glycerin.
-
Facial oils are an excellent way for menopausal skin to regain that glow. Adding one into your routine can help immediately restore the appearance of dull-looking skin.
-
When you are perimenopausal and especially menopausal, you’re more prone to sensitivity and redness. It might be time to step away from the actives – instead, consider using a treatment serum to calm and soothe the skin until it returns to normal.
