After the Glossier post I received almost 500 comments in less than 24 hours, a lot of them asking for info on more affordable acids. I would start by saying that ‘affordable’ is in the eye of the beholder. Nothing kicks off arguments in the comments than people bickering over what constitutes ‘cheap’ or ‘affordable’. Let’s agree to differ and focus on what they do and what you personally can afford.
I thought it would be good to start a post listing some of the ones that I have recommended in the past, and encourage you to jump on the comments with your suggestions/favourites if they aren’t listed.
I will build on this list and eventually make an updated Cheat Sheet that will grow and change as newness hits the market. It’s worth bearing in mind that The Ordinary is extremely affordable, but most of the sizes (with a few exceptions) are 30ml. So while a Pixi or Clinique may seem more expensive at £18.00 and £27.50, they are nearly 7 times and 13 times the size!
First off, just to mention: I am asked about The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% a lot. This is not a daily exfoliating acid, it’s a once a week peel. It’s strong and should only be used by seasoned pros who need it. You apply it, and wash it off. Yes it’s cheap. It’s £6.30. But it’s not a daily acid. The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% is here.
