Tracie Martyn Amla Purifying Cleanser

Tracie Martyn Amla Purifying Cleanser

What is it?

'An anti-ageing Cleansing Concentrate'.

Who is it for?

All skin types.

What’s in it?

Well this is the fun part. I checked every retailer that stocks this product and not one of them, not one, lists the ingredients. This includes Net-A-Porter, Nordstroms, Space NK, CE Bigelow and traciemartyn.com. I mean come ON. REALLY? I know I'm just shouting down a large vacuous wind tunnel but WHY don't brands/retailers list their ingredients?? The ones that I did find, on cosmetic review sites, were entirely different to the ones listed on my bottle - so I'm typing them out. (The bottle is not conducive to great photographs) GGRRRR.

Water, decyl glucoside, sodium cocoyl, wheat amino acids, sodium lauroyl lactylate, potassium undecylenoyl, hydrolyzed soy protein, phyllianthus emblica fruit extract, lactic acid, malic acid, ascorbic acid, salicylic acid, papain, bromelain, curcuma longa root extract (turmeric), spinacia oleracea (spinach) leaf powder, sorbitol, allantoin, fragrance (natural), menthe viridis leaf oil (spearmint), satureia hortensis oil, citrus aurantifolia (lime) oil, tantalum album (sandalwood) oil, glyceryl caprylate, glyceryl undecylenate, potassium sorbate

Possibly acne/allergy/troubling for some ingredients?

fragrance - being natural is better than synthetic but it can still irritate some

Natural? Organic? Man made? Vegan?

says it's 'all natural with organic ingredients'

Tested on animals/sold in China?

No/unclear but I don't think so

What's not in it?

'free from petrochemicals, dyes, artificial fragrances and unnecessary fillers'

sulphate and detergent free

parabens

mineral oil

How do you use it?

The brand suggest 'adding 3 pumps to your palm, adding water, rubbing hands together to make small lather, massage on to face and neck and rinse thoroughly'.

I would say 3 pumps is excessive. Its not cheap for starters. Two pumps will be more than enough for a second cleanse in the evening and one pump in the morning for a quick morning refreshing cleanse should suffice.

I apply to the ends of my fingers, dampen the palm of my hands and then spread it across both hands with one swipe. Apply all over the face, massage thoroughly and rinse off with a warm flannel.

What’s good about it?

This is a lovely cleanser. It's very exfoliating without being too harsh, leaves the skin really fresh and bright and definitely refines. For that reason I use it as a skin cleanser, not a makeup remover. Contains lots of plant actives that do seem to do what they were put in there for, which is always a bonus.

Turmeric to take down redness, lactic, salicylic and malic acids - all exfoliate, resurface, are antibacterial and polish. It's a more sophisticated formula than a lot of cleansers, especially those with a tendency to foam/lather.

What’s not so good about it?

On the foaming scale, this is as 'foaming' as I go - and it's not really foamy, its more a soft lather like the brand says. It's not that comfortable in the eye area, well, for me anyway...another reason why I stick to second cleanse/a.m. cleanse.

Where to use in your routine?

First in the morning.

Second in the evening.

Similar products?

Hard to say. Maybe Chantecaille Rice & Geranium?

Tracie Martyn's Amla Purifying Cleanser is $65/£55 for 50ml and available in lots of the aforementioned stockists that don't list the ingredients in the product so no link for them. *is grumpy*

The Tracie Martyn website is: www.traciemartyn.com

As an aside, I love the look of the new toner on the TM website, but I have no idea what's in it so won't risk buying it. How does that make financial sense for any brand?

If any eagle-eyed readers either have it or see it, please snap a picture of the ingredients and show me! I'd be very grateful. :)
