The joy of doing in-person events is that I get to talk to a lot of you in a much more intimate fashion than via the internet. On the recent Clarins events, anywhere between 3-5 people each day would share that they would normally have struggled to attend something quite so loud/busy/frenetic due to various reasons such as ME, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety or other serious illnesses such as MS.

I was particularly struck by one woman who confided that on days when she really cannot function, she felt guilty for either doing nothing to her skin, or trying to do the bare minimum and using wipes.

Honestly, the only reason I advocate attempting any kind of skin 'care' in all of these situations is purely for the self-care aspect.

On days where you think 'I can't face moving' - for whatever reason - do the absolute bare minimum and don't give yourself a hard time about it: Wipes* - Yes. You heard correctly. There is the odd wipe that isn't atrocious (in this situation).

Water Wipes are literally water and a natural preservative to keep them fresh - amazon.com/waterwipes If I still had small people these would be my wipe of choice. They're enough to 'freshen' you up if you can't move. In 'all' areas.

RMS Beauty Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipes only contain coconut oil and shouldn't do any further harm if you need something to feel a little more substantial for your face than the water wipes. You need to hold the packet in your hand for a few minutes to heat up the coconut oil and ensure it's melted in the sachet before you open - spacenk.com/rms Just don't flush either of them down the loo.

Serozinc is a great mist/hydrator for all skins, not just the oily/combination skin types that it was traditionally advertised towards. It's soft, sprays a lovely light mist and is suitable for misting at all times, not just after cleansing. larocheposay/serozinc

La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra 8 Face Mist is a brilliant hydrating mist and is mainly a great spray vessel to get glycerin onto your skin in the easiest way. Spray liberally, as often as you like. I am never without it. LRP/LookFantastic Moisturiser-wise there are plenty of good options for affordable, calming products that you can literally stick on your face and forget about.

Weleda Skin Food has been highlighted on here many a time and is still one of my favourites for a face that just wants comfort and/or moisturising. The newer lighter version is much better for you if you are oily/combination. A must-have for most skins to be honest. Skin Food

If your skin is also reddened, angry or sensitised, buy the spray version of Zelens heroic (no, really) Treatment Drops Power D: Provitamin D Fortifying Facial Mist is your one-stop shop if all you have the energy to do is wipe your face ad spray something. When you can't face much, but want to do 'something', keep these to hand. Easy to use, soothing and not too active.

Just do what you can. When you can. And try not to give yourself a hard time about it..

*These are not for you if you are not suffering with any of these ailments. Don't try it. I'm watching. :)
