Mandelic acid helps to inhibit the expression of tyrosinase – the enzyme that contributes to hyperpigmentation – working with lactic acid and gluconolactone to gently buff away old cells at the surface of the skin. Skin-soothing and hydration-boosting actives ensure skin is simultaneously conditioned and well-hydrated to achieve gentle exfoliation.

How to use
Use in either the AM or PM, up to 3 times a week. After cleansing, dampen a cotton pad with the toner and sweep over a clean, dry face. Avoid the eye area. Follow with the rest of your routine and use sun protection during the day.
AM routine example: The Cream Cleanser, The Gentle Acid, The Moisturiser and SPF.
PM routine example: The Cream Cleanser (double cleanse), The Gentle Acid, The Support Oil and The Moisturiser.
You can use The Gentle Acid in the AM or PM (not both). However, you may wish to reserve exfoliation for the PM to avoid immediate sun exposure. Remember to always wear sun protection after using acids, as your skin’s sensitivity to sun damage can become heightened.
No, you do not need to use both acids in a single routine. Please choose the formula best suited to your skin’s needs.

All Skin Rocks products are developed to fully comply with both the UK and EU Cosmetic Regulations and undergo a strict independent safety assessment before they can be sold to consumers.
This product contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and, particularly, the possibility of sunburn. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards. Use only as directed. If irritation persists, discontinue use.

Short for alpha-hydroxy acid, AHAs are types of water-soluble exfoliating acids that help to exfoliate the surface of the skin, leaving a glowing and more even complexion. Glycolic acid is a very popular AHA in skincare, however, it can be irritating for some skins and is the only AHA proven to increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Therefore, we chose to use alternative AHAs that are kinder to the skin yet still pack a punch – mandelic and lactic acids.
Polyhydroxy acids (PHAs) are water-soluble exfoliating acids with similar benefits to AHAs. PHAs are known to be gentler alternatives to AHAs due to their larger molecule size and are often recommended for sensitive skins.
The Gentle Acid contains 9% AHA (5% mandelic and 4% lactic acid) and 1% PHA (gluconolactone).
Yes, The Gentle Acid is suitable for all skin types. It has been specifically formulated to benefit those with dull, uneven skin. The Gentle Acid has been formulated to use variants of AHAs/PHA shown to have good compatibility with a wide range of skin types and tones. Whilst The Gentle Acid should be okay to use if you are prone to sensitivity, we would always recommend to patch test before first use and to discontinue use if there are any signs of irritation. You should not be using acid products on any areas of skin that are actively sensitised or if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients used.
Yes, during development and our clinical and consumer trials, we always ensure that our testing panels are fully inclusive, representing all skin tones. Both mandelic and lactic acid were also included in the formula because of their known compatibility with all skin tones and types.
Yes, all of our products are cruelty free and The Gentle Acid is vegan-friendly. Skin Rocks do not and never will test our products or ingredients on animals. Neither will we ask or allow any third parties to do so on our behalf.
All individual components of The Gentle Acid packaging are recyclable. Separate, rinse and dry all components before recycling. Please check all materials against local requirements.
