Key ingredients

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C) – Renowned for its stability and compatibility with the skin, this vitamin C precursor is a powerful antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitor that helps prevent hyperpigmentation, protect the skin's collagen levels and reinforce the skin barrier.

Acetyl Zingerone – A next-generation antioxidant that works synergistically with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate to boost its efficacy, helping to further reduce signs of photoageing and improve the skin's defences.

Fermented Green Tea Seed Extract – A fermented plant extract naturally rich in antioxidant phenols and tocopherols (vitamin E) to help protect the skin from free radical damage.

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2 – A brightening peptide that is shown to boost the skin's antioxidant ability, shielding it from the effects of pollution and visibly reducing the appearance of dark spots and  signs of ageing.

    How to Refill

    You’ve finished your product and received your Refill—what’s next?

    1. Unscrew the outer glass bottle, remove the lid and then untwist the existing inner Refill from the pump.

    2. Place the empty inner Refill bottle to one side and wash and dry your pump.

    3. Unscrew the lid on your new Refill, placing the lid to one side. Insert and tighten your new Refill bottle onto the clean pump, ensuring this is secure and tight enough that it doesn't move.

    4. Reattach the outer glass bottle.

    5. Wash, dry and recycle the empty inner Refill bottle and new refill cap as appropriate.

    Where should I use The Antioxidant in my routine?

    The Antioxidant should be used in the middle your routine at the serum stage.

    The primary function of an antioxidant is to help protect the skin from environmental aggressors, placing it firmly in the Protect category.

    What are free radicals and antioxidants?

    Free radicals are unstable molecules with unpaired electrons produced naturally in the body and by environmental aggressors such as pollution, cigarette smoke and UV rays. As they are missing an electron, they're constantly on the hunt for a spare electron, which they can steal from our healthy cells, damaging them in the process. This damage, also known as oxidative stress, weakens the skin's natural defences and leads to accelerated ageing, increasing concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and loss of firmness.

    Antioxidants work by donating their electrons instead of those belonging to your cells (how kind!), helping to protect your skin from damage and preventing premature ageing. 

    How and when should I use The Antioxidant?

    Use daily in the AM or PM, after cleansing/toning.
    Massage 1-2 pumps onto the entire face.
    Apply in the morning before your moisturiser and SPF.
    Apply in the evening before your moisturiser and/or oil.

    What is tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THDA) and how is it different from other vitamin C derivatives?

    THDA is a precursor to ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C), which means it can be converted to ascorbic acid once applied to the skin. It is also lipid-soluble, enabling it to penetrate the epidermis more effectively than other water-soluble derivatives. THDA is inherently more stable and gentler than ascorbic acid, which is notoriously unstable and irritating for many. This is further improved when combined with acetyl zingerone as they work synergistically together. 

    What percentage of vitamin C is used in The Antioxidant?

    Whilst The Antioxidant contains 5% tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (a highly stable vitamin C precursor), it is much more than a vitamin C serum. The formula also includes multiple highly effective antioxidants to amplify the benefits, negating the need for an additional vitamin C serum in your routine. 

    When it comes to percentages, it is important to note that concentration is not a direct correlation of efficacy and can be affected by multiple factors. This includes the type of vitamin C used and the other complementary actives used within the overall formulation. 

    Can I use The Antioxidant with other active Skin Rocks Products?

    Yes, you can apply The Antioxidant after either of our Acids; however, you may wish to use The Antioxidant in the AM and your chosen Acid in the PM. 

    When pairing with our Retinoids, we recommend using your Retinoid at night and The Antioxidant during the day. This radiance-boosting duo will work beautifully together to help protect and renew your skin.

    When using with our Hyperpigmentation Serum, we recommend using The Antioxidant, we recommend applying The Hyperpigmentation Serum first, followed by The Antioxidant, or using them in alternate routines.

    Is The Antioxidant suitable for use during pregnancy/breastfeeding?

    Yes. The Antioxidant, like our full range, is a topically applied, facial cosmetic product that is safe to use during pregnancy/breastfeeding. 

    Is The Antioxidant vegan?

    Yes. The Antioxidant does not contain any animal or animal-derived ingredients.

    Is The Antioxidant cruelty free?

    Yes, all Skin Rocks products are cruelty free and not tested on animals.

    Is The Antioxidant refillable?

    Yes. The Antioxidant has a 30ml refill that can easily be placed and screwed into the glass bottle.
