Open The Brightening Box with Caroline Hirons

The products included in The Brightening Box are hand-picked by our Founder and Skincare Expert, Caroline Hirons. Read on to find out why she chose the products and to discover her top tips for dealing with dull skin.

Why did you choose brightening as a theme?

One of the most common skin complaints I hear is ‘my skin looks dull’ or ‘I feel like my skin is lacking oomph’ (hello my people!). I wanted to create a Box that addresses this and is suitable for use by all - regardless of their skin type. Each of the products in this routine work in synergy to give the skin a more even, glowing complexion.

Why did you choose these products?

Pai Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil:

Aside from being a joy to use, I chose the Pai Rosehip Cleansing oil as it plays well with other products and is suitable for all skin types. The formula is gentle yet hardworking, quite literally making ‘light work’ of daily grime, makeup and SPF removal without stinging the eyes or irritating even the most sensitive of skins.

Murad Vita-C Eyes Dark Circle Corrector:

Dark circles are my most-asked-about eye concern, so it was a no-brainer to include a product that brightens their appearance in this Box. Founded by one of the most respected dermatologists in the industry, Murad was the first brand that came to mind when looking for a formula that really worked. The Murad’s Vita-C Dark Circle Corrector eye serum targets multiple types of dark circles, visibly brightening the eye area both immediately (thanks to light-reflecting minerals) and over time.

Facetheory Lumizela Azelaic Acid Serum A15:

As an industry, we tend to rely on vitamin C serums to do a lot, particularly when it comes to brightening the skin. However, there are other actives that do an equally brilliant job (if not, better) and azelaic acid is one of them. Suitable for all skin types (and yes, you can use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding), the Face Theory Azelaic Acid Serum helps to even skin tone by reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, redness and breakouts.

Dermalogica BioLumin-C Gel Moisturiser:

Created by the unanimously trusted, aesthetician-based brand, this is a wonderful moisturiser that uses vitamin C to give the skin a more radiant appearance, alongside proven hydrating ingredients such as squalane and hyaluronic acid. As we roll into the summer months here in the UK, the lightweight, gel texture is perfect for the warmer weather and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky on the skin.

What are your top 3 tips for dull-looking skin?

  • Exfoliate using an acid (e.g glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid). This will complement the products in this Box wonderfully and work to remove the layer of old skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin, giving you a more radiant complexion. As a general rule, start slow, exfoliating 1 – 3 times a week. Your exfoliating step sits between the cleanser and serum in this Box.

  • Wear SPF daily. Not only is this crucial for protecting the skin but it also helps to prevent hyperpigmentation, which can lead to an uneven appearance. Opt for a minimum of SPF 30.

  • Keep the skin hydrated. Most of us at one time or another are dehydrated, and this can lead to a dull complexion. To combat this, avoid harsh or stripping products and look for humectant ingredients in your skincare such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid. Incorporating a hydrating mist into your routine can be a great way to amp up hydration levels.
