What is Skin Rocks™?
Skin Rocks had to happen.
Skin Rocks is the who, where, why, what and how of skincare. And it is here with love from our Founder, Caroline Hirons.
Skincare is a big subject, and lots of people need a helping hand with cutting through the noise and understanding what they really need for their skin. We are here to help with that, and we do it through the ground-breaking Skin Rocks app, targeted Boxes and, now, the skincare range.
Skin Rocks is built on Caroline’s lifelong study of skincare. She wrote the books (literally). And on top of that, Caroline invites an ever-growing, science-knowing group of genuine experts to join in and dispel myths, tell truths and share insights.
Skin is the foundation.
‘I started the blog to celebrate skin and Skin Rocks is an extension of that.’
Our name says it all – skin does rock – it’s incredible. We are here (guided by Caroline Hirons) to help people help their skin look its best.
Skin Rocks™ makes skincare make sense.
‘In my opinion, we have gone from customers being spoken down to and treated as if they know nothing to being given too much information that isn’t relevant. Our goal is to make skincare make sense, to everyone.’
It’s all about empowering people to look after their skin. It’s an education.
Caroline knows the beauty industry better than the back of her hand. And she has access to the scientists, formulators, brand owners and clinicians who make the most effective products on the market. Minus the mystery, boost the understanding. They say ‘knowledge is power’, but we think action after knowledge is the real power.
Truth is a responsibility.
'We will never put a spin on something to make a sale. We will always give you proven, factual information.'
That’s what Skin Rocks is about.
We’ll only recommend what’s right for your skin type. We’ll make sure we explain everything clearly. We’ll tell you when you don’t need something. And we’ll never promise that a product will do something that it doesn’t do.
Think Science™.
‘There is no carrot in this yoghurt.’
This is our direct response to brands and organisations in the beauty industry that refer to ingredients as ‘dirty’, ‘clean’, ‘harmful’ or ‘toxic’. Everything is a chemical, and with the amount of testing that skincare has to go through, nothing that is sold will harm you. Skin Rocks is here to give you scientific information that is easy-to-digest.
Founded in education.
Caroline is a globally qualified beauty therapist, with 25 years’ experience in the industry. Every piece of content across Skin Rocks that gives advice is written by experts. Skin Rocks is not opinion, it is fact.
‘For me, it has always been about skin.’
From the shop floor to CEO, Caroline Hirons is considered the most powerful woman in the skincare industry. Caroline literally grew up around the beauty industry, with her mother and grandmother working in the industry from the 1960s onwards. From her first day on the beauty counter in Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge, Caroline fell in love with skincare and went on to train and qualify in beauty therapy, leaving the shop floor for more senior roles in 2001. After gaining a wealth of experience across all departments in the subsequent 10 years, Caroline moved to consulting for brands and retailers in 2007, working with and advising some of the top names in the industry. In 2010, during the earlier days of social media, when everyone else was focussed on makeup and nails, Caroline launched her blog, which played instead to her strengths: skincare and the beauty business as a whole. CarolineHirons.com has since amassed over 160 million views and 89 million unique users.

Multi-award-winning, Caroline’s success comes from honest and science-backed knowledge and her business growth comes from 35 years of passion and an audience that trusts her implicitly. It cannot be exaggerated how much Caroline knows about skincare: its ingredients, the suppliers, the customers, the packaging, the science. Quite simply, her knowledge, no-nonsense approach and business mindset are what earned her the position of the ‘Most Powerful Woman in Beauty’.
With big plans to revolutionise and demystify the world of skincare, and true commitment to the industry she loves, Caroline has become the most trusted and influential person in her field.
‘As long as our customers are happy, we are releasing products that we absolutely believe in and are a brand that you can trust. The rest is the cherry on the cake.'
This is only the beginning.
At Skin Rocks, we believe that everything we do has an impact. From how we treat our team to how we package our products, it matters.
Beauty Businesses Rock
Beauty is not only skin deep. It is a backbone to our global markets. As a UK-based business, we defend our sector that contributes over £28billion to the economy, with 82% of business owners being women.
Skin Rocks is women-founded and led, whilst continuing to hire inclusively, and without barriers. Our team is integral to the running and success of Skin Rocks, and we are committed to wellbeing and continued growth. Currently, we provide a range of development courses, as well as business and wellbeing workshops. Financially, we aim to offer salaries above the national living wage, to match the rising cost of living.
Earth Rocks
Skin Rocks is, and will always remain, cruelty free. We do not test products or ingredients on animals, nor do we ask any third parties to do so on our behalf. Skin Rocks products are developed to fully comply with relevant cosmetic legislation, including the EU Cosmetic Regulation (Ec. No. 1223/2009), and the equivalent UK law (Schedule 34, The Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019)), both of which have made cosmetic animal testing illegal. It is also our company policy not to sell Skin Rocks cosmetic products in any countries that require animal testing in order to enter the market.
95% of cosmetic packaging is thrown away. Our Skin Rocks packaging is, where possible, readily recyclable at home. Where this is not possible (e.g. pumps), we will aim to provide a refillable solution. Additionally, all our boxes and cartons are from an FSC-certified source, with a vegetable-based ink print. We hope to encourage and educate our community on better waste practices, while helping to sustain a circular economy. Recycling information will be available for all of our products online, but please do check against your local recycling requirements before disposing.
We work with RePurpose Global who remove an equal amount of plastic used in all of our products from nature. They collect ocean-bound plastic and recover it, whilst creating jobs for underprivileged waste workers. Read more here.
We recognise carbon footprint is important to reducing and reusing methods and are continually exploring meaningful partnerships to offset this.
To the best of our ability, we work to ensure our supply chain meets industry best practices, without compromising on formulation & product performance.
Community Rocks
Our customers are at the core of everything we do, which is why we have invested in making skincare make sense and creating products where formula comes first.
Whether it’s the Skin Rocks App Boxes or our skincare, it’s all about empowering people to look after their skin. Truth is a responsibility; we’ll always be clear on whether you need a product, or not.
In order to provide the best formulas we can, we work with industry leading labs / cosmetic scientists to ensure that we use the best active ingredients available. We prioritise clinical & instrumental testing to substantiate the product efficacy and claims of our active products. While consumer testing is used to further support the results of these tests, we feel it could be misleading in isolation.
Clinical testing is an important consideration throughout product development, with target claims identified early on. Although a key priority, we do not complete testing for the sake of testing. For each product we identify key claims for performance, and work with an independent testing house to determine the most appropriate protocols. We specifically request that all our panellist criteria are fully inclusive. They are open to all skin types and tones (based on the Fitzpatrick scale), unless specifically dictated by active ingredients (e.g. skin sensitivity) or methodology (e.g. it is unethical to include a high % of darker skin tones in a clinical patch test, because the level of irritation required to trigger a visible response is very high).
You can trust that our products will only launch when they work hard enough to carry the Skin Rocks name.
Beyond our customers, we also actively engage with the third sector. Historically, we have partnered with The Beauty Backed Trust and are exploring further charity initiatives.
As we grow, so will our giving.
