What Are Exfoliating Acids?
Exfoliating acids are a type of chemical exfoliant used in skincare. Each type of acid has different benefits, but overall, they help to resurface the skin and improve skin texture. The three main types of acid exfoliants in skincare are AHAs (such as glycolic, mandelic and lactic acids), BHA (salicylic acid) and PHAs (such as gluconolactone).
From controlling oil to gentle decongestion or advanced exfoliation, our three targeted Exfolitone™ acids deliver exfoliation excellence for every skin.

Can I use multiple Skin Rocks Acids in the same routine?
No, you do not need to use multiple acids in a single routine. Please choose the formula best suited to your skin’s needs.
Can I apply the Skin Rocks Acids with my hands?
No. We recommend applying the product with a cotton pad.
Can I use Skin Rocks Acids when pregnant/breastfeeding?
Yes – our acid toners are topically applied facial cosmetic products that are safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. All Skin Rocks products are developed to fully comply with both the UK and EU Cosmetic Regulations and undergo a strict independent safety assessment before they can be sold to consumers.
If hyperpigmentation is your main concern, opt for The Hyperpigmentation Serum. Using the retinoids alongside this will help to enhance results. We recommend applying The Hyperpigmentation Serum daily in the AM and/or PM, and the retinoids 3-4 times a week in the PM.
If using both serums in the PM, apply The Hyperpigmentation Serum first, followed by Retinoid 1 or 2.If you mainly want to target signs of ageing, opt for our retinoids.
How regularly should I use an acid toner?
The Skin Rocks Acid Toners should be used once a day, up to 3 times a week. If you are just starting out, introduce the product into your routine gradually, building up to 3 times a week.
Which Skin Rocks acid is right for me?
Which Skin Rocks Acid you choose will depend on your skin concerns.
If your main concern is oiliness, congestion and/or breakouts, we recommend The Control Acid.
If your main concerns are texture, dullness and/or fine lines and wrinkles, we would recommend either the Gentle or Strong Acids.
If you are new to acids or are an irregular user of exfoliating acids, we recommend The Gentle Acid.
If you are a regular exfoliating acid user and/or prefer a stronger formula, we recommend The Strong Acid.
Why do I need an exfoliating acid?
Exfoliating acids help to resurface the skin, removing old skin cells from its surface. The skin’s natural exfoliation process can be slowed for a number of reasons, and using an exfoliating acid can aid the skin’s natural process and help prevent a build-up of old skin cells, which can otherwise result in a number of skin concerns such as texture, flakiness, congestion and dullness.
What is the difference between exfoliating acids and retinoids?
Exfoliating acids are ingredients that help to promote exfoliation and remove old skin cells from the surface of the skin. They do this by breaking down the ‘glue’ that holds old skin cells together.
Retinoids, on the other hand, are vitamin A-related ingredients that help to increase skin cell turnover. While they help to promote the skin’s natural renewal process, they do not exfoliate the skin.
Both ingredients complement each other, as retinoids will help to speed up the production of new skin cells, and acids will help to clear the old cells from the surface, making way for new cells.
How do I know if I have overexfoliated?
If you’ve over exfoliated, you may notice some signs of an impaired skin barrier, including a ‘tight’ feeling, redness, sensitisation and/or dryness.
Is a tingling sensation normal when first using an acid?
A very slight tingling sensation may be expected when first using an exfoliating acid, however this should not be confused for a stinging or burning sensation. If you experience any prolonged stinging, burning or redness, please discontinue use of your acid until your skin has returned to normal.
Are any of the Skin Rocks Acids suitable for teenage skin?
Yes. While most skincare products are intended for those aged 16 and above (unless otherwise specified), The Control Acid was designed for hormonal breakouts and may be suitable for younger skin experiencing this concern, if used under parental supervision
The Gentle and Strong Acids are not advised for teenage skin.
How long before I start to see results?
You can expect to see brighter, glowing skin after the first use, with results continuing to improve as you use the product consistently. Since your skin follows a natural 4-week cycle, you should allow at least four weeks before expecting full results, as demonstrated in our clinical studies. With long-term use, results will become more apparent and maintained.
