What is The Control Acid?
The Control Acid is our 2% BHA + Polylysine Exfoliating Acid Toner and is part of our new Exfolitone™ collection alongside The Gentle Acid (our AHA + PHA Exfoliating Acid Toner). Formulated specifically for congested, oily, and/or breakout-prone skin, The Control Acid has been expertly crafted to help control congestion before it occurs (hence the name). This makes it an excellent choice if hormones are causing changes in your skin – whether that’s down to puberty, contraception, your menstrual cycle or menopause.
What is BHA?
BHA stands for beta-hydroxy acid, which is a type of oil-soluble exfoliating acid. These acids are able to break down oil, grime, and other impurities and exfoliate the pore lining, decongesting the skin and helping to prevent blackheads and breakouts. The only BHA used in skincare is salicylic acid.
The formula
The Control Acid contains 2% salicylic acid, which is the maximum percentage for facial skincare. However, the formula does not stop there. Several highly effective actives are also included to keep congestion and excess oil production at bay, setting it aside from other BHA toners whilst still caring for your skin.
Key ingredients
- Salicylic acid: The Control Acid contains 2% salicylic acid, which is the highest percentage you are allowed for facial skincare in the UK and EU. Salicylic acid decongests the skin and unclogs pores to help improve skin texture, promoting smoother and clearer skin.
- Polylysine and lemon myrtle: Regulate sebum production whilst maintaining the quality of the skin’s natural oils, helping to protect the skin barrier and minimise shine. Lemon myrtle also has antioxidant properties, helping to protect the skin from environmental aggressors.
- Oligopeptide-10: Shown to be particularly beneficial for congested/blemish-prone skin by helping to reduce congestion and improve skin texture. Works synergistically with salicylic acid to boost its efficacy.
- Niacinamide: Regulates the production of sebum (oil) on the skin, in turn reducing the appearance of pores and improving skin texture. Niacinamide also is great at minimising the appearance of redness and helps to support the skin barrier by promoting the synthesis of ceramides within the skin, which are essential for barrier function.
- Panthenol and glycerin: Skin-soothing and hydration-boosting ingredients that complement salicylic acid, minimising potential irritation and helping to support the skin barrier.
